BoF Session at IEEE Quantum Week 2026 (QCE26)

Q/est will organize a Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) session at the IEEE International Conference on Quantum Computing and Engineering (QCE26 / IEEE Quantum Week 2026), which will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada, from September 13 to 18, 2026:
“Developing Quantum Use Cases from Future Everyday Life Scenarios.”

The BoF aims to explore quantum use cases not only by starting from existing quantum technologies or established research objectives, but also by asking what kinds of situations, needs, and social challenges may emerge in people’s future everyday lives, and where quantum technologies could meaningfully contribute.

What We Will Do

Participants will use stories depicting possible future everyday-life situations as starting points for considering the challenges and expectations that may arise in those societies. Through individual reflection, small-group discussion, and plenary discussion, participants will connect these future situations with their own interests and areas of expertise.

Rather than beginning with the question, “What can quantum technology do?”, the session first asks what people may want to achieve and what problems may need to be addressed in future everyday life and society. Participants will then explore where and how quantum technologies could contribute to those needs, using the discussion to identify and develop possible future quantum use cases.

Through this session, we aim to create a space in which participants from diverse backgrounds can discuss how quantum research and development might connect with future societal needs and everyday life.
